Audience Research

An audience is a variety of different groups to which you belong with. For example gender, ethnic, age, class, sex, ECT. Each of these determines what type of person you are and what you are interested in. It is also a target market or a particular type of consumer which a media producer wants to sell to. Audience research is any communication or research that is conducted on specific audience segments to gather information about their demographics, media habits, needs, attitudes, knowledge, interests, preferences, or behaviors. The spectators are a specific audience which the magazine I am creating will be targeted at.
Audience research is used when the producer needs to understand the intended consumer’s needs for a particular product. By doing this the producer now knows what the audience wants in order for them to create that product so the consumer will purchase it. A way in which the producer could initiate this is to do a survey/questionnaire. By doing this it will determine a variety of different things the audience would want to see.
This is important because the media is a big industry in which the audience is affected by. This is because of our ideologies and where we get them. We are influenced by T.V, Internet, Magazines, Celebrities, Music and any type of medium. As an audience the media controls and influences us. The media gives out messages like a drug. Its hypodermic industry because they inject the audience with what they believe is right and we relate to it with our own problems this is called gratification, for example all soaps on T.V.
