Research: Supersize Me Analysis

Gina Needham & Monisha Chowdhury

Super size me was a documentary film produced in 2004, directed by and starring a man called Morgan Spurlock. Morgan is an independent American filmmaker who decided to produce a documentary film about the fast food industry. His documentary follows a 30day time period, during which he only eats McDonalds, the worldwide, number one food corporation.

The film documents this lifestyle of him just eating McDonalds and the dramatic effects it has on Spurlock's physical and psychological wellbeing. It also explores the fast food industry's corporate influence, including how it encourages poor nutrition for its own profit. Spurlock dined at McDonald's restaurants three times per day, sampling every item on the chain's menu. Spurlock also would "super-size" his meal if given the option to.

This documentary was very successful and an inspiration to many other documentaries that also documented overweight people. The documentary was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary.
