Research: SKINS

MONISHA CHOWDHURY
This clip is an episode in the hit UK tv series, Skins. In this episode, the friends gather and find some drugs to consume. The remainder of the video shows what they do and how they acts under the influence.

Camera Shots/Effects/Editing

The clip opens with a establishing shot which shows the trees of the forest from the character's point of view. The shot is from the character laying down looking up. Straight away, the audience can see where the video is taking place. The Forest is usually knows as a mysterious place, a place where anyone can do as they please and break rules. In this shot, the camera was being spun around which created a sense of dizziness.

This shot uses fade. The clip of the trees is being faded into the characters face. The transistion from the trees to the face takes around five seconds in total and the tree clip is still spinning during the transition. This effect creates an emotion of confusion, dizziness and being under the influence.

A lot of close ups and medium close ups are used in this video to show the characters emotions and how they feel. Using close ups, draw the audience in and gives them a chance to see what happens to the characters in greater depth. It lets the each person in the audience think something different. One person may interpret the emotion differently to another person.

This shot has been taken on ground level showing some of the grass and the characters face from the same level. This shot shows where she is laying; amongst dirk, mud, leaves and God knows what else. In the shot it seems the character is looking at something in particular and hence looking into the camera. It's like shes looking at the audience.

This is a two shot. It does what it says and is just a shot with two people in the frame. This shot is used to show how two people are around each other and how they react to each other. The shot is in medium shot and shows the top half of the characters. We see the emotional reactions between the two characters.

This is a
panning shot. The camera follows the character as he first enters the frame, then walks past. He is followed (panned) from when he first enters the frame to when he walks on and off. This shot is used to show movement of the subject.

This is a long shot. Here the shot is used to show the subject and the surroundings and also shows how the subject relates to the area. In this particular shot we see the character walking and we also notice how deep the forest is that they are in. Also how the character does not fit in with the area.
