Hollyoaks later Analysis

Here is a short analysis of Hollyoaks Later, it shows two innocent people that are influenced by people they have met at a festival. They take Ecstasy.

This image shows a medium two shot, of two people about to take an ecstasy pill which you can see in the male character's hand. This shot shows a very vulnerable, young and pretty girl, we can tell this by what she is wearing and the way her hair is. Their body language also shows this, by the way she is looking up at him as if he is an influence on her as he is looking down on her holding the ecstasy pill in front of her, persuading her to take it.

Here is another close up of the two characters, but this one shows the character taking the drug from his hand. We can see by her facial expressions that she doesn't really want to do it, but is doing it because she feels pressured by the other character that she really likes. We can tell this by his facial expressions and the way he is looking at her taking the pill from his while she is looking at the pill. He almost looks like he is enjoying her taking the pill from his hand so that he doesn't feel alone. Also, the fact that they are on a beach and the beach is surrounding them with a calm atmosphere it shows her innocence as it contrasts with the fact that they are taking drugs. Due to the fact that she is vulnerable and innocent like the beach it shows his control and power over her.

In this close up of the two characters we see the dominant male taking the drugs to show to the girl that it's ok. The fact that he takes the drug first it shows that he is leading her to follow him in the same actions. We can see by her facial expression watching him take the drug that she is overtaken by his power and she will follow him and let him lead her into his world of drugs.

This shot is showing two characters that are brother and sister and they both have taken the drugs. The bright flashing lights and the swaying of the camera is showing the effects of the drugs they have taken. This is known as a psychedelic experience, which is what the characters are experiencing in this shot, showing their changes of perception.

This is a mid close up of the two characters, which shows their vulnerability as they keep talking about rubbish throughout the seen. The way the lighting is used in this shot shows that the camera is focussed more on the girl as she is more innocent than her brother, who is in the darker side of the shot. The fact that she has blonde hair and he has brown shows a direct contrast between the two characters as brother and sister. In reality the brother should be the one to look after his little sister, however in this episode he doesn't which gets them into trouble.

This is another mid close up of the two characters staring at each other. The fact that they are in the shot together means that there is a link between the two characters and the fact that they are either in it together or they are not. in this episode they are in it together as they both end up in trouble, however it is the innocent younger sister that ends up saving her brother, which shows her power and determination throughout the scene.
